2018 Committee Appointments

There are a few exciting announcements to come out of last week’s AGM, the first of which is the club is extremely excited and proud to announce that Michael Cochrane is now the new President of Kew Football Club.

After coming through the junior ranks at Kew Comets, Michael had an amazing playing career with his beloved Bears, highlighted by captaining the club through it’s most successful period in history, the 2013, 2014 and 2015 senior premierships.

After retiring from playing at the end of 2016, Michael immediately volunteered his services to the committee, where he spent his first year as Vice-President to David Henderson.

As David now steps into the role of treasurer, the committee unanimously agreed that Michael is the perfect man to step into the leadership role, as the club looks to go back to the Premier grades of the VAFA.

Michael will be assisted in his role by a new Vice-President, a premiership teammate, Joshua O’Bryan.

We would sincerely like to thank David Henderson for stepping up into the role of President for season 2017, and for now staying on as Treasurer.

The club also wishes to thank Chris Briggs, who is retiring as treasurer after generously giving several years of service in the role. Chris will be missed by the committee but we look forward to seeing him at many games in 2018 and beyond!

One thing is certain, the future is looking good at the cave!

Women's Teams to Join VAFA

More exciting 🏉 news from the Bear Cave!

Kew FC is pleased to officially announce that a decision has been made by the Club that our two Women’s teams will compete as part of the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) in the 2018 season and beyond.

The decision to move to the VAFA aligns with the Club’s strategic plan and means that both our male and female teams will be competing in the same league for the very first time.

Kew FC has a proud history of competing in the VAFA, as one of the first clubs to join the association. Naturally the VAFA has accepted our application for both Women’s teams to play in its leading competition in 2018.

The formal process is underway with both the VAFA and NFL to finalise the move through AFL Victoria.

Kew would like to thank the NFL for an enjoyable season in 2017, and wishes it’s womens competition well for the future.

All Kew FC mens and womens teams look forward to a big 2018 season competing in the VAFA!

Go Bears!
